this is the second time we've pulled a group together to compete in the fantasy summer olympic games, and we're happy you decided to play with us!
we sent out an email early in the week and invited you to pick seven teams from various groups based on medals won in the athens games. please pick wisely and get these teams to katie by 4pm on thursday, august 7th - or else!!
katie has set up a database to keep up with the medal count and our scores, and we'll be posting an updated spreadsheet on this blog as the olympics proceed.
good luck to everyone (except the winners from the athens fantasy games, mike and dave - just kidding :) ), and let the games begin!

Hey just because I won last time doesn't mean I don't deserve the luck! Ha ha you all are going down!
My only hope is that I do better than last time. Which should be easy since I ended up in last place and that is where Mike will be this year.
oh wow, the table talk has begun. all i've got to say is that a) the teams i've picked are the best; and b) michael phelps will NEVER be as good a swimmer as mark spitz!
Have you seen Phelps' facial hair? It's longer than Spitzs! You can deny that.
tyler and i agree that phelps' facial hair is creepy and half assed. ugh!!
Are you sure it is longer than Spiz'? Because in the photo I saw it did not look longer.
And Spiz did not have a swim suit that was tested in a wind tunnel last I checked.
maybe we should pitch in to buy this book together and read up on the legend that is mark spitz!

not sure why that link didn't post...the website i linked to says:
First Authorized Autobiography of Mark Spitz Tells of Youngster Growing Up in California, Rise to NCAA and Olympic Fame -- Available for Presale in the Swim Shop! -- June 26, 2008
MARK Spitz is arguably the most famous and successful Olympic athlete of all time because of his legendary performances at the 1972 Olympics, where he won seven gold medals while breaking seven world records. His amazing life story is told for the first time in the authorized biography, "Mark Spitz: The Extraordinary Life of an Olympic Champion."
The book is available July 1, but for $16.47, you can pre-order your copy in the Swim Shop by clicking here.
This exclusive account follows Spitz's roller-coaster career: age-group prodigy, four-medal "flop" at the 1968 Olympics, outstanding collegiate career at Indiana University, gold-medal haul in 1972, lucrative endorsements and a brief and unsuccessful stint in entertainment.
And the "meatier" stories -- the role his father played in his career, his often stormy relationship with coaches and teammates, his experiences as a Jewish athlete with anti-Semitism and the Munich massacre, his impact on the commercialization of swimming, his relationship with Michael Phelps and others —- have been largely unknown, ignored, barely touched on or distorted.
This fascinating book provides insights into Spitz's career, behind-the-scenes anecdotes about him and his competitors, and untold stories that shed light on his complicated personality and relationship with his father. Old and new fans alike will appreciate the depth and details of this swimming icon's story.
With millions of people getting ready to enjoy the summer Games, now is the perfect time to read the only authorized biography ever published about the greatest Olympic athlete of all time!
